Meet Baby (left) and Red (right).
Baby is one of our Dominique roosters. He is a
little over a year old and runs the chicken yard. This black
and white breed is one of our favorite breeds
because they are calm, genial, and easy to work with.
The Dominique is the oldest U.S. breed and a good dual
purpose bird. The hens lay medium-size brown eggs.
They are known as extremely good foragers and
they love to wander off into the woods looking for bugs.
Red is one of our Ameraucana roosters. He runs the area
outside the chicken yard which covers a lot of territory.
The Ameraucana is one of our other favorite breeds.
This is also a U.S. breed. The parent stock was imported
from South America (the Araucana).
They are quite hardy with active friendly personalities.
In fact, our friendliest birds are Ameraucana hens –
Buddy and Butterball. Buddy knows his name and will
come running for a bug. The hens lay blue eggs in
various shades.
