The 7th Annual Bonnie Blue Ball will be held Saturday, February 4 in Winnsboro, TX

Anita Williams - Wednesday, January 11, 2012

The 7th Annual Bonnie Blue Ball - The Confederate Gala - will bring a touch of the 1860s to the new renovated Winnsboro City Auditorium on Saturday, February 4 at 5 pm.

If you've never attended one of these events, you and your children may find it an interesting adventure, especially if your family is usually glued to iPads, an XBox, smartphones and Kindles.

Unplug for a rare look at a slower pace of life that depended on getting together as a community, instead of being hypnotized by TV shows during the evening.

The ball is an authentic re-enactment of the fancy balls held in the 1800s. The gala will allow those attending to travel back through time and enjoy the simple pleasure of a gracious evening of Southern food, music and dancing.

Everything has historic significance, from the men in uniform to the flags, from the cornbread to the apple cobbler.

A band trained in traditional music of the times, along with a skilled caller for the traditional dances of the 1860s, will be on hand.

Some of the guests are come fully dressed in clothing and hairstyles of the era. Those without costumes are, of course, welcome. The recommended dress code is slacks and shirts for men and boys, Sunday dresses for women and girls. The manners, customs and culture of the South are evident throughout the Ball.

Directions: The Winnsboro City Auditorium is located on Wheeler Drive, which is one street east of Hwy 852. (Watch for the Alco store, which is at the corner.)

Families from Texas, Arkansas, Oklahoma, and Louisiana are expected. Many homeschool families join the fun. The event is produced as a non-profit educational event by the Foundation for Christian Alternatives.

County Line 2011 Best of the Upper East Side awards - Winnsboro wins the most "Bests" 3rd year in a row!

Anita Williams - Thursday, January 05, 2012

Winnsboro fans came through once again and we came out on top once again!

Not that we were nervously waiting to see the results of this year's balloting, but when the January edition of County Line Magazine landed downtown, we pounced on them to see how our city fared.

Winnsboro establishments captured three honored positions in the new County Line Magazine Hall of Fame. These spots are reserved for those who have won repeatedly over the years. They now have permanent status as the “best of the best” in the Hall of Fame.

Winnsboro shared Hall of Fame honors with Edom and Canton, each with three Hall of Fame winners.  Only 15 previous winners were honored.

In the 2011 balloting, Winnsboro won five of the 47 categories. In the group of honored runners-up, Winnsboro trailed Tyler by a few votes.

The 2,000 votes were spread across more than three dozen communities, which shows our area is serious about promoting the assets of our corner of Texas.

Be sure to congratulate our winners when you drop by. . .

A special thanks to all who took the time to vote.  And we appreciate your support throughout the year by shopping and dining locally, and enjoying the arts and music that put Winnsboro on the map.

Pick up the January, 2012 issue or go to www.countylinemagazine.com to view all the results.
