The Winnsboro Center for the Arts (WCA) will hold a day-long writing workshop on Saturday, February 11 from 10 until 2 pm for those interested in learning how to write for film and stage.
The workshop is aptly named "So You Want to Write for the Movies Screenwriting Workshop."
The instructor is Maryann Miller, who has written numerous books and has extensive experience writing scripts. She has written for several film directors, most notably Stephen Marro Productions in New York.
Maryann has won a number of awards for her original screenplays, including being a semi-finalist at Sundance and in the Chesterfield Awards. "That is significant," Miller says, "Because thousands of writers enter those contests each year and to be in the top 100 is quite an honor."
As the Theatre Director at WCA, Miller has mounted numerous shows, including her original play, "There Is A Time." "What a wonderful experience that was," Miller says. "I defy any writer to watch his or her story come alive on stage and not be incredibly moved."
The workshop will cover the basic elements of a screenplay: Developing the idea and characters, the seven main elements of a screenplay, visuals, structure, and dialogue. Attendees will have ample time to practice some of the elements that Miller will be teaching and could come away with a story idea to work on afterward.
The registration fee is $35
