Peoples Telephone, in conjunction with the City of Winnsboro, has launched wireless connectivity at the airport for pilots, City Park, including the Rodeo and RV areas, as well as the historic downtown district.
The Wi-Max Base Station will make residential and commercial connections available, while Wi-Fi hotspot locations will give wireless access in specific locations for local residents, business travelers and tourists.
Peoples will conduct a site survey for any Wi-Max connections to check the signal and install the service. Packages are competitively priced from $39.95 per month. The Wi-Max connections are expected to double in speeds, but not in cost, in one year.
This state-of-the-art connectivity also provides the Internet access people demand today for their mobile devices via Wi-Fi hotspots. This is exciting news because those visiting from the city often to don't have the access they take for granted in the city. This new technology positions Winnsboro well to attract new businesses, residents and visitors. Prices for this service are $9.95 for an hour and $12.95 for 72 hours.
Our friends at Lake Fork Marina are already enjoying the new technology on a smaller scale, which has proven to be a boon when hosting bass fishing tournaments.
The kick-off celebration will be Wednesday, April 14, 2010, from 11:00 am - 2:00 pm at the Depot. Everyone within the City limits is invited for hotdogs and sodas. You can learn more about Wi-Max and Wi-Fi from the representatives who will be present from Peoples Telephone Co-operative.
