Saturday, as a part of the “3rd Friday” Arts Festival, the Texas Pistolaros return to the streets of downtown Winnsboro for some “wild west” frolicking fun.

The Arts Festival runs from 10 am - 5 pm, with the Pistolaros performing in various locations about the downtown from 10 am - 2 pm.

3rd Friday Art Walk to feature local Jazz trio

Anita Williams - Sunday, July 10, 2011
The “3rd Friday” Art Walk will feature the Jazz Trio of Shannon Monk (vocals), Joe Knight (piano) and Ben Scarborough (bass) at the Keyring Gallery (107 Locust) from 6-9 pm on Friday evening, July 15.

The free concert accompanies the continuing art exhibition on display from the June Artists’ Competition.   The concert/exhibition is funded, in part, by a grant from the Texas Commission on the Arts.   The public is invited.

As a part of the “3rd Friday” Arts Festival, the Friday evening Art Walk continues to be a part of “3rd Friday”, with several downtown merchants joining in with individual sales, events and art displays.

Some of the participating stores include Beauweevils, SayADream Studio, the Winnsboro Emporium, Art & Espresso, Liefie, Ladles to Linens, Silhouette Dressmaking, & Main Street Antiques & Collectibles.

An “Americana” theme will prevail, with many stores serving refreshments.

Friday evening music continues to be highlighted with Drew Kennedy at the Double C from 8-10pm.  Art & Espresso will feature music by Caleb from 7-9pm.    Come join the fun.

July 15-16 covers the monthly "3rd Friday" Arts Festival, with daytime hours from 10 am - 6 pm on Friday and the Art Walk from 6-9 pm.  On Saturday, the hours remain 10 am-5 pm.

The Texas Pistolaros will “take over” downtown with roving “shoot outs”, general mayhem and foolishness on Saturday, July 16.  The public can be a part of the festive action as they perform between 10am and 2pm.    From "cool jazz"  to "blazing shoot outs", the weekend has much to offer.

Alert to artists! 3rd Friday now includes art competition and evening Art Walk.

Anita Williams - Tuesday, June 07, 2011

Some exciting news from Sandy Page, Director of Winnsboro's Cultural Arts District!  I'll let her speak for herself. . .

The “3rd Friday” Arts Festival for June 17th & 18th is developing with much excitement.

Thanks to building owners and their willingness to support the arts, there will be separate, beautiful new gallery space at The Key Ring Gallery (on Locust, next to the newspaper) for some of the artists that qualify and are entering the Competition sector of this upcoming “3rd Friday”.

The focus for this Artists’ Competition is “Natural Resources & Agriculture”.  The artist may choose to use materials that relate to the theme, or they may choose to depict scenes that relate.  More than one entry is permissible. . . up to four.

The Texas Commission on the Arts has awarded funding to the Winnsboro Cultural Arts District to support “Artists’ Awards” for this and future Competitions that follow this theme.  For this event, first prize is $300, 2nd - $150 and 3rd - $50.   Winners will be announced Saturday afternoon, June 18th.  The Competition is open to the Performing, Visual and Literary Arts.

Artist/vendors may, also, have artwork that does not follow the Competition theme and additional space is available for exhibiting.  Merchants are joining in much more than usual and are highlighting art in displays, etc. and are doing other special events in individual shops.

The “3rd Friday” Arts Festival will continue to use the Depot & area, but, now, will have activities all over the downtown area (Cultural Arts District).   Vendor hours, during the day, remain 10am-6pm on Friday and 10am-5pm on Saturday.

On Friday evening, June 17th, there will be. . .

  • A special “Art Walk” evening with the Gallery Opening (wine/hors d’oeuvres)

  • A separate Live Poets Society reading at Winnsboro Emporium

  • SayADream Studio will be open (Ceramic workshop -$3 & lemonade and popcorn)

  • Liefie will be open until 8pm (wine)

  • Art & Espresso will have a “Jimmy Buffet” Party, with music by Caleb.
  • There will be 2 performances of a very special "farm" skit by Nancy and Karl Falster of Falster Farm

  • Numerous merchants will be open on this very special Friday evening.
Along with these “art happenings,” more events are being developed.

“3rd Friday” is also presenting the Texas Pistolaros "traveling shoot-out" performance Saturday, live music, many interesting vendors, and a photographer recording the festivities.

The public is invited to both the daytime and evening events.  The hours for the "Art Walk" (Friday evening, June 17) vary a bit for different participants, but cover the period from  6-9 pm.   Hand-out information for the “Art Walk” will be available. Please come and join the fun, while strolling through the downtown Arts District.

For further information on the events, including the “Artists’ Competition”, please contact Sandy Page, Director-Winnsboro Cultural Arts District, (903) 850-1662 or spagewcad@gmail.com have questions.
