Mount Vernon Music presents The American Horn Quartet, Saturday, April 6, 7:30 pm

Mount Vernon Music is proud to present the American Horn Quartet in concert on Saturday, April 6 at 7:30 P.M. in Mount Vernon Music Hall.

The American Horn Quartet consists of four outstanding American horn players who reside and work in Europe, and has an international following thanks to their ten recordings and nearly three decades of performing around the world.

They electrified the audience at their first appearance in East Texas three years ago for Mount Vernon Music, and requested to include MVM on their U.S. tour this year.

Tickets are $10 for MVM members, $15 for non-members, and $5 for college students with valid ID. Children’s admission through high school is free (8th grade and younger must be accompanied by an adult ticketholder).

With a program celebrating the velvet sound of the clarinet, Mount Vernon Music invites the public to Clarinet and More! on Saturday, February 9 at 7:30 P.M. in Mount Vernon Music Hall.

Clarinetist Daryl Coad will perform the central role in Mozart’s perennial favorite Quintet for Clarinet and Strings, following jazz-inspired music for string quartet, a high-speed ride on the Autobahn for two violins, and a hauntingly powerful piece of music by Eugène Ysaÿe, revered as “the greatest violinist ever.”

Tickets are $10 for MVM members, $15 for non-members, and $5 for college students with valid ID. Children’s admission through high school is free (8th grade and younger must be accompanied by an adult ticketholder). Memberships in MVM start at $25 and are good for the entire season from June 1 through May 31.

Ellen Rose, Principal Violinist of the Dallas Symphony, will perform at Mt. Vernon Music on Sunday, October 28 at 3 pm

Don't miss Ellen Rose, viola, together with pianist Kristin Ditlow in a special single-performance concert to benefit Mount Vernon Music on Sunday, October 28 at 3 pm in MVM Hall.

They will perform music by Boccherini, Enesco, Clarke, Vaughan Williams and Ellen Rose's own transcriptions of other masters.

She has performed in the world's most prestigious venues, given master classes at America's top music schools, is the Principal Violist of the Dallas Symphony since 1980, teaches at SMU, and will do a tour of performances in China this fall.

The public is invited to Mount Vernon Music’s annual Young Artists Showcase, a musical event featuring youth from around the region of northeast Texas in Mount Vernon Music Hall on Sunday, May 22, 2011 at 3:00 pm.

This year’s performers will include budding talents on the classical guitar, percussion, clarinet, voice, saxophone, trumpet, and the Sulphur Springs Strings under the direction of Ben Roberts.

“Best performance” prizes will be awarded to three participants, and the winner of the MVM Music Scholarship for graduating seniors will be announced. Admission to this concert is free.

Steinway Artist Joel Schoenhals will perform in Mount Vernon Music’s annual “Agnes Burns Keyboard Series” Saturday, March12, 2011 at 7:30 pm.

Known to MVM audiences for his exciting ensemble playing, Dr. Schoenhals enjoys a reputation for excellence as a teacher, recording artist, and soloist.

He will present music by Schumann, Chopin, Moszkowski and Gottschalk, performing on the newly refurbished Agnes Burns memorial Steinway.

Joel Schoenhals is Associate Professor of Piano at Eastern Michigan University. 

An active performer and recording artist, Schoenhals has received praise for his recordings of Bartók’s For Children and Lieder of Schubert Transcribed for Piano by Franz Liszt on Fleur de Son Classics.

Tickets are $10 for MVM members, $15 for non-members. Students are admitted free.
