Men - shop Local for Christmas! Women - shop local all year long.

Anita Williams - Thursday, December 16, 2010

Men, we know Christmas is a challenge. But your friendly downtown Winnsboro merchants have the solution. In most shops, the owner is always around, ready and willing to guide you to just the right gift to make you a hero to the women in your life.

Who are you shopping for? Your wife, mom, daughter, sister, or, if you aren't married, the special someone in your life?

The shop owners are adept at finding out what a woman wants. In fact, if the woman you're shopping for shops often at the downtown stores, the staff may know exactly what she likes! At some stores, your gift will be beautifully wrapped so all you have to do is tuck it under the tree.

Other than the tendency for men to leave Christmas shopping to the very last minute, to shop in Winnsboro, there's another reason to shop in Winnsboro.

Shopping in local stores is an important way to keep Winnsboro's economy healthy and growing. So ladies and gentlemen, please keep this in mind all year long.

Top Ten Reasons to Shop Local

1.      Shopping local means you save time and money on gas. MEN! Shopping in town is EASY! Park close to shops. No charge and no hiking to get where you're going.

2.      Local stores are more friendly and customer-oriented than big-box stores in nearby cities.

3.      Our stores have personality and specialty products that can’t be found in chain stores.

4.      The sales taxes provide the money that the Winnsboro Economic Development Corp. uses to underwrite numerous projects that benefit our community.

5.      Local business owners are involved in our community, including contributing to local nonprofit organizations with time, products and/or money.

6.      The local shops and restaurants attracts people to Winnsboro, but local shoppers are needed to keep sales up!

7.      Local businesses spend money with other local businesses in town.

8.      Local businesses provide jobs.

9.      Local business owners invest in the community, improve commercial properties, and have a vested interest in the future of this community.

10.  It’s fun to shop in town where you know the shop owners and they know you!
