Winnsboro Fine Art Market quick recap. . .

Anita Williams - Monday, November 07, 2011

Hi art fans!

The Fine Art Market was a hit - again - and artists, musicians and art lovers alike mingled for a couple of terrific days.

We'll be doing a full wrap-up blog post as quickly as we can.  In the meantime here's the instant overview:

Friday - the Set-Up Day.  Artists arrived and put up their booths.  At 3 pm, an open house was held at the Keyring Gallery.

Friday night was a truly memorable evening with fantastic surf and turf entrees and a sinfully rich (quoting from the printed menu) Decadent Southern Pecan Pie Trifle.  But as good as the food was, the Silent Auction and music by the popular duo, Enola Gay ad Kurt Bittner brought a special energy to the event.

The dinner took place in the newly redone City Auditorium which now has better acoustics, a much more inviting look. (More upgrades on the way).

Saturday dawned and the early morning was cool, but the sun was out and soon warmed up.  Artists got their booths set up and visitors and art buyers began filling Market and Elm Streets.

With fine art reflecting many different style and media, shoppers spotted and bought "finds" from under $10 to several thousand dollars.

Sunday was a repeat of Saturday with a number of people returning to reconsider purchasing a favorite painting, sculpture or piece of jewelry.  The threatened rain passed right by Winnsboro and people lingered in front of the art booths as well as the music tent at the Depot.

At the end of the afternoon, the art community literally folded its tents, packed their gear and headed home.

Fine Art Market volunteers at the July meeting.

When visitors attend the Winnsboro Fine Art Market in November, they probably won’t be aware of all the hard work that has gone on behind the scenes.  All that work is being done by a group of dedicated volunteers; some who are working on key projects before the Art Market opens and some who will help for a few hours during the event.

There are still many opportunities to get involved in this behind-the-scenes work.  Do you have special talents or interests?  Put them to use as a volunteer.

All volunteers receive Art Market T-shirts, a pass to the VIP Hospitality Room during the Art Market, an invitation to the wrap-up party, and recognition for their service

If you’d like to be part of the action, a meeting of volunteers will be held Saturday, September 10th at 11:00 a.m. in the conference room at the First National Bank, 315 North Main Street, Winnsboro, Texas. Lunch will be served.

For more information please contact Joyce Hillebrand, joyce@winnsboroart.com, 903-763-2050 or Mary Smith, mary@winnsboroart.com, 903-342-3438, or visit the Art Market website at www.winnsboroart.com.  RSVP’s would be appreciated.

The Winnsboro Fine Art Market is a juried art festival held in the Cultural Arts District of Downtown Winnsboro on November 5th and 6th, 2011. It is a project of the Winnsboro Main Street Partnership, Inc., a non-profit corporation and a 501c(3) charity whose mission is to support the development of successful and thriving private sector businesses in the Downtown Historic District and throughout the City of Winnsboro.

Food as an Art Form

Marilyn Arnoud, Joyce Hillebrand, Mike
Tate, Nevin St. Romain and Georgia Moore
socialize before the dinner.

Not only are they artists with stone and clay, Al and Georgia Moore are artists with food as well.  On Saturday, April 30, they hosted a fundraising dinner for the Winnsboro Fine Art Market at their “little house in the woods”.

A lucky group of 14 guests feasted on a six course meal featuring an entrée of roasted pork tenderloin stuffed with a medley of wild mushrooms and herbs, served on a bed of sage polenta, and accompanied by three different sauces.

Consummate art lovers, the Moore’s home features a two story atrium/gallery filled with artwork they’ve collected over the years.  The guests were invited to browse and enjoy the art before they settled down to an “artful” dinner.  As Chef Al Moore would say, “Presentation is everything,” but his guests would probably disagree.  Everything tasted as good as it looked.

Marilyn Arnaud, a member of the Board of the Winnsboro Main Street Partnership, Inc., that produces the Art Market commented, “The food was wonderful, the wine was wonderful and the company was wonderful. I wish we could do this every weekend.”

If you weren’t among the lucky few who attended this dinner, you’ll get a second chance when the Moore’s host another dinner on Saturday, June 11th.  The menu for the second dinner isn’t completed but rumor has it that the entrée will be beef tenderloin or perhaps Beef Wellington.  If you’d like to tickets to this dinner, please contact Mary Smith at 903-342-3438 or Marilyn Arnaud at 903-342-3343.

Funds raised from these dinners will benefit The Winnsboro Fine Art Market that takes place November 5th & 6th, 2011, in the Cultural Arts District of Downtown Winnsboro.  The Art Market is a festival and sale of fine art and craft from artists in Northeast Texas and beyond.  All artists must pass a jurying process before acceptance to the festival to insure quality art. In addition to the art, the Art Market features continuous live music presented by City National Bank, demonstrations by exhibiting artists, a wine garden featuring wine from several area wineries, and art activities for the children.  Admission to the Art Market is free.

The Winnsboro Fine Art Market is sponsored by The Winnsboro Main Street Partnership, a non-profit corporation whose mission is to support the development of successful and thriving private sector businesses in the Downtown Historic District and throughout the City of Winnsboro.

Official Poster Contest Announced for the 2011 Winnsboro Fine Art Market

Anita Williams - Thursday, February 03, 2011

This just in from Mary Smith.  . .

In an effort to expand and enhance its event for artists in the region, The Winnsboro Fine Art Market is sponsoring an Official Poster Competition for its November 2011 art festival.

“One of the goals of the Art Market is to promote area artists and this competition will be a great opportunity for the winning artist to gain some notoriety as well as earning a little spending money,” said Mary Smith, Event Director.

In addition to having their artwork featured on all event marketing materials, the winner will receive a $500 cash award and recognition on the website and at the Art Market.

The winning artwork will be auctioned at the Patrons’ Reception held on Friday, November 4th, to kick off the event.

The competition is open to all artists 18 years and older, and to minors who have the written consent of a parent or guardian.  Artwork in any media will be considered.

For detailed rules and an application, please visit our website at www.winnsboroart.com or contact Mary Smith at 903-342-3438 or via e-mail at mary@winnsboroart.com.

Art lovers - become a volunteer for the Fine Art Market in November, 2011

Anita Williams - Friday, January 07, 2011

Mary Smith is developing her pre-event and at-event volunteer teams. The volunteers were vital to the success of the 2009 Fine Art Market. Attendees and artists alike were impressed with the professionalism of the volunteers.

Here's a message from Mary. . .

We’re hard at work on the Art Market for next November and, as always, we need community participation.  In November we’ll need the help of lots of volunteers, but right now we could use a few people who’d like to hold key positions and help with the early planning.

This could include a coordinator for volunteers, entertainment, artists, food vendors, and children’s activities—basically people who would be willing to chair a committee.

In addition, if you have a particular skill that would benefit the Art Market like a knowledge of graphic design, marketing or sales we’d love to hear from you, too.  If you’d like to be part of the action, please contact me for more information.
