Student Juried Art Event

Be sure and visit the Winnsboro Center for the Arts reception on March 7th from 2:30 to 4:30 pm.

The Winnsboro Center for the Arts is hosting the 7th Annual Art in the Gallery High School Art Competition. This juried event, was formerly hosted by the Friends of the Rains Public Library.   High School students from Alba Golden, Como-Pickton, Grand Saline, Hawkins, Miller Grove, Mineola, Quitman, Rains, Winnsboro, Yantis and Home Schooled students participated in this contest.  The exhibit will run through April 10th.

A Sampling of Art from the Exhibit

The Art in the Gallery Student Competition awards high school students ribbons and cash prizes for their unique creations. Besides encouraging the creation of quality artwork, these students are also required to follow professional guidelines for exhibition. Their teachers and schools have been instrumental in assisting these students reach their full potential and your sponsorship is a clear vote of support for their efforts.

Award categories include Best in Show, Excellence in Art (2 awards), Best Use of Media, Most Imaginative, Viewers’ Choice and Picasso Awards. Each winner receives a beautiful ribbon and a cash prize. The cash prizes for this event total approximately  $1000! There is tremendous excitement in the schools as the competition nears. The competitive spirit brings out the best in these young artists, who often participate every year of their high school experience. Donations help keep that creative spirit alive. 

The art is currently hanging in our gallery and being judged by a panel of 6.   The exhibit is open to the public during the week from Wednesday to Saturday from 10 am to 2 pm.  While there, please stop and submit a ballot for your favorite. The Viewers’ Choice winner also receives a cash prize (at the close of the exhibit).

The names of all the contributors is being displayed in the reception area of the Center.  The exhibit opens with a “come and go” reception on March 7 (social distancing is our focus, of course). All donations are tax deductible.
